HOW IT WORKS
1

Drop the m4a file

Drag your M4A onto the page or click to browse. It is read locally, never sent anywhere.

2

Choose AAC and bitrate

Pick 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps. 192 kbps is the default. Click Convert to start processing in this tab.

3

Save the aac

The finished AAC downloads straight back to your device. Nothing touched a server on the way.

Why convert here, not there

No upload, ever

Your m4a file is decoded and re-encoded by code in this tab - a song, a memo, a podcast never leaves the device.

Local conversion

No upload time for a big m4a file, no server queue, no waiting on a download link.

No account, no daily cap

No daily caps, no "3 conversions left", no email wall. Convert the whole m4a library.

The two formats, briefly

M4AM4A is an audio container. This converter writes AAC audio inside M4A, not Apple Lossless.
AACAAC is a lossy audio codec. This page writes a standalone AAC file using the selected bitrate.

When you need this

  • Use AAC when your receiving app or player does not accept M4A. This page re-encodes the audio, so keep the original and check the download in that app before replacing it.

Good to know

  • The audio bitrate choices are 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. Lower bitrates usually reduce size but can make loss more audible.
  • First use downloads the audio/video engine (about 30 MB). The input cap is 2 GB, but available browser memory can run out below that.

M4A to AAC, answered

Why convert M4A to AAC?+
Use AAC when your receiving app or player does not accept M4A. This page re-encodes the audio, so keep the original and check the download in that app before replacing it.
Which quality should I pick?+
The audio bitrate choices are 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. Lower bitrates usually reduce size but can make loss more audible.
Does converting M4A to AAC lose quality?+
This export uses lossy audio encoding. The source M4A may contain different codecs or recording quality; re-encoding cannot improve the original. Compare the result before deleting the source.
Is there a file size limit?+
The hard cap is 2 GB per file. The practical limit is your device: conversion runs in its memory, so very large files can fail on phones with little free RAM. There is no server-side cap because nothing is uploaded.
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?+
No upload, full stop. Everything between dropping the file and downloading the aac happens in your browser.
