HOW IT WORKS
1

Drop the wav file

Drag your WAV onto the page or click to browse. It is read locally, never sent anywhere.

2

Choose MP3 and bitrate

Pick 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps. 192 kbps is the default. Click Convert to start processing in this tab.

3

Save the mp3

The finished MP3 downloads straight back to your device. Nothing touched a server on the way.

Why convert here, not there

No upload, ever

Audio files are personal. WAV to MP3 here happens inside one browser tab, end to end.

Local conversion

Conversion runs locally after you click Convert. The first audio or video conversion may need to download the converter engine.

No account, no daily cap

No account or daily conversion quota. The per-file cap is 2 GB, and available device memory can impose a lower practical limit.

The two formats, briefly

WAVWAV is a container commonly used for PCM audio. This converter writes 16-bit PCM; the source sample rate and channels are not deliberately changed.
MP3MP3 is a lossy audio format. This converter encodes it at the selected bitrate rather than copying the original audio stream.

When you need this

  • Use MP3 when your receiving app or player does not accept WAV. This page re-encodes the audio, so keep the original and check the download in that app before replacing it.

Tested on a large file

On 26 October 2026 we converted a synthetic stereo WAV, 100 minutes and 1009 MB, to MP3 at 192 kbps in desktop Chrome. It produced a 137 MB MP3 of the same length, with no upload.

We checked every MP3 frame in the result and decoded short parts from the start, middle and end. We did not play the whole file.

Not tested: phones, Safari, files near the 2 GB cap, or other formats. Large files depend on your device's free memory.

Want to see the flow first? Download a 10-second generated tone, not a recording (440 Hz, 1.7 MB): synthetic-440hz-10s.wav, then drop it above.

Good to know

  • The audio bitrate choices are 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. Lower bitrates usually reduce size but can make loss more audible.
  • First use downloads the audio/video engine (about 30 MB). The input cap is 2 GB, but available browser memory can run out below that.

WAV to MP3, answered

Why convert WAV to MP3?+
Use MP3 when your receiving app or player does not accept WAV. This page re-encodes the audio, so keep the original and check the download in that app before replacing it.
Which quality should I pick?+
The audio bitrate choices are 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. Lower bitrates usually reduce size but can make loss more audible.
Does converting WAV to MP3 lose quality?+
This export uses lossy audio encoding. The source WAV may contain different codecs or recording quality; re-encoding cannot improve the original. Compare the result before deleting the source.
Is there a file size limit?+
The hard cap is 2 GB per file. The practical limit is your device: conversion runs in its memory, so very large files can fail on phones with little free RAM. There is no server-side cap because nothing is uploaded.
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?+
No. The file is read and converted by code running in this browser tab. Your file is never sent to a server - its contents stay in this tab.
