Convert FLAC to MP3
Convert FLAC to MP3 on your device. Choose your file, convert, and check the result before sharing.
Drop the flac file
Drag your FLAC onto the page or click to browse. It is read locally, never sent anywhere.
Choose MP3 and bitrate
Pick 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps. 192 kbps is the default. Click Convert to start processing in this tab.
Save the mp3
The finished MP3 downloads straight back to your device. Nothing touched a server on the way.
Why convert here, not there
No upload, ever
Your flac file is decoded and re-encoded by code in this tab - a song, a memo, a podcast never leaves the device.
Local conversion
No upload time for a big flac file, no server queue, no waiting on a download link.
No account, no daily cap
No daily caps, no "3 conversions left", no email wall. Convert the whole flac library.
The two formats, briefly
| FLAC | FLAC uses lossless audio compression. Encoding decoded audio as FLAC does not restore detail already lost in a source recording. | |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 | MP3 is a lossy audio format. This converter encodes it at the selected bitrate rather than copying the original audio stream. | |
When you need this
- Use MP3 when your receiving app or player does not accept FLAC. This page re-encodes the audio, so keep the original and check the download in that app before replacing it.
Tested on a sample file
On 26 October 2026 we converted a synthetic 90-second stereo FLAC file (5.5 MB, 44.1 kHz; tones and noise, not music) to MP3 at the default 192 kbps in Chrome on a Linux server, not a laptop or phone. The result was a 2.1 MB MP3 of the same length, about 37% of the FLAC size. It took about 2 seconds once the converter had loaded.
The MP3 size follows the bitrate you pick, not the FLAC. For this file the four options gave 1.4 MB (128 kbps), 2.1 MB (192), 2.7 MB (256) and 3.4 MB (320). FLAC files vary in size with the content, so your ratio will differ.
We decoded each MP3 from start to end with no errors. We did not listen to them. Not tested: phones, Safari, real music recordings, long files.
FLAC vs MP3: what changes
| FLAC | MP3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Kind | Audio | Audio |
| Compression | Lossless audio compression | Lossy audio |
| Typical size | Depends on the file and encoding settings. | Measure the exported file; it may be larger. |
| Opens on | Check the source in your app and browser. | Check the downloaded file in the receiving app. |
| Best for | Keep the original as your source. | MP3 workflows, subject to the limits below. |
Keep the original. Compare the exported file before sharing or replacing it.
Good to know
- The audio bitrate choices are 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. Lower bitrates usually reduce size but can make loss more audible.
- First use downloads the audio/video engine (about 30 MB). The input cap is 2 GB, but available browser memory can run out below that.
