HOW IT WORKS
1

Drop the aiff file

Drag your AIFF onto the page or click to browse. It is read locally, never sent anywhere.

2

Choose MP3 and bitrate

Pick 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps. 192 kbps is the default. Click Convert to start processing in this tab.

3

Save the mp3

The finished MP3 downloads straight back to your device. Nothing touched a server on the way.

Why convert here, not there

No upload, ever

Audio files are personal. AIFF to MP3 here happens inside one browser tab, end to end.

Local conversion

Conversion runs locally after you click Convert. The first audio or video conversion may need to download the converter engine.

No account, no daily cap

No account or daily conversion quota. The per-file cap is 2 GB, and available device memory can impose a lower practical limit.

The two formats, briefly

AIFFAIFF is an audio container. This converter writes 16-bit PCM audio; a higher-bit-depth source can lose precision.
MP3MP3 is a lossy audio format. This converter encodes it at the selected bitrate rather than copying the original audio stream.

When you need this

  • Use MP3 when your receiving app or player does not accept AIFF. This page re-encodes the audio, so keep the original and check the download in that app before replacing it.

Tested on a sample file

On 26 October 2026 we converted a synthetic 90-second stereo AIFF file (15.1 MB, 44.1 kHz; tones and noise, not music) to MP3 at the default 192 kbps in Chrome on a Linux server, not a laptop or phone. The result was a 2.1 MB MP3 of the same length, about 14% of the AIFF size. It took about 1.5 seconds once the converter had loaded.

AIFF is uncompressed, so it is large. The MP3 size follows the bitrate you pick: for this file the 128 kbps option gave 1.4 MB.

We decoded each MP3 from start to end with no errors. We did not listen to them. Not tested: phones, Safari, real music recordings, long files.

Good to know

  • The audio bitrate choices are 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. Lower bitrates usually reduce size but can make loss more audible.
  • First use downloads the audio/video engine (about 30 MB). The input cap is 2 GB, but available browser memory can run out below that.

AIFF to MP3, answered

Why convert AIFF to MP3?+
Use MP3 when your receiving app or player does not accept AIFF. This page re-encodes the audio, so keep the original and check the download in that app before replacing it.
Which quality should I pick?+
The audio bitrate choices are 128, 192, 256 and 320 kbps, with 192 kbps as the default. Lower bitrates usually reduce size but can make loss more audible.
Does converting AIFF to MP3 lose quality?+
This export uses lossy audio encoding. The source AIFF may contain different codecs or recording quality; re-encoding cannot improve the original. Compare the result before deleting the source.
Is there a file size limit?+
The hard cap is 2 GB per file. The practical limit is your device: conversion runs in its memory, so very large files can fail on phones with little free RAM. There is no server-side cap because nothing is uploaded.
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?+
No upload, full stop. Everything between dropping the file and downloading the mp3 happens in your browser.
