Cut list optimizer

Paste your piece lengths, set the stock length and blade kerf - get a tight board-by-board cutting plan with a visual layout.

Runs on your device - nothing is uploaded.
HOW IT WORKS
1

List your pieces

One per line, like 600 x 4 for four 600 mm pieces. Nothing leaves this tab.

2

Set stock and blade

Your board or rod length and the saw blade width (kerf), in mm or inches.

3

Cut board by board

Each board shows its cuts to scale, its offcut and the running waste total.

Questions

What stock can I use this for?+
Anything cut in one dimension: wooden planks and boards, metal rods and bars, pipes, trim, moulding or fabric on a roll. For sheet goods like plywood panels you need a 2D nesting tool instead.
What is kerf?+
The width of material the saw blade removes with each cut. A typical circular saw removes about 3 mm (1/8 inch). Entering it matters: ten cuts lose 30 mm of stock.
Is the plan guaranteed to use the fewest boards?+
The optimizer sorts pieces largest-first, packs them tightest-gap-first, then tries to empty the least-used board into the leftovers of the others. For normal workshop lists this matches or beats hand planning, but a mathematically perfect answer for every possible list is not guaranteed.
Can I plan around an offcut I already have?+
Yes - add it as an extra stock length line. Each stock line is used once, in the order given, before new boards are cut.
