Compress a PDF

Rebuild the PDF at a smaller size. Great for scans and image-heavy files. Nothing leaves this tab.

HOW IT WORKS
1

Drop the file

It is read by your browser, never uploaded.

2

We do the work here

Open codecs and PDF libraries running in this tab handle everything.

3

Download

The result saves straight back to your device.

Why compress here, not there

No upload, ever. A PDF holding your Aadhaar, marksheet, or bank details is squeezed inside this tab. It never touches a server.

No watermark. The compressed file comes back clean - no logo, no footer, no "made with" line added to your document.

Honest by design. If shrinking your PDF would actually make it bigger, the tool says so and downloads nothing instead of handing you a worse file.

How the compression works

Each page is re-rendered at a resolution matched to your chosen setting and rebuilt into a fresh PDF. That is why scans and photo-heavy documents shrink the most - their pages are really large images.

The trade-off to know about: text in the compressed file becomes part of the page image, so it can’t be selected or copied. Keep the original if you need searchable text.

Smallest file for hard upload limits, Balanced for everyday email and screen reading, High quality when the document will be printed.

When you need this

An email attachment too big to send. A government, exam, or job portal with a strict upload size limit. A scanned document you want to send on WhatsApp without a long wait. A phone scan of a paper document that came out far bigger than expected.

Good to know

Scanned and image-heavy PDFs shrink the most. In our test on this page, a 2.8 MB six-page phone scan came out at 930 KB on Balanced and 462 KB on Smallest file - 67-84% smaller. High quality gave 2.2 MB, only 20% smaller, but close to the original look.

A text-only PDF exported from Word is already compact - our 12.6 KB text test file would have grown, so the tool refused and downloaded nothing. Up to 100 pages and 300 MB per file. Password-protected PDFs can’t be opened here - remove the password first.

Questions

Will my PDF lose quality?+
Pages are re-rendered as high-quality images at your chosen setting. Text becomes non-selectable - keep the original if you need to copy text.
How much smaller will it get?+
It depends on what is inside. Our test on this page - a 2.8 MB six-page phone scan - shrank 67% on Balanced and 84% on Smallest file. A text-only PDF is already compact; the tool tells you and downloads nothing rather than make it bigger.
Which setting should I pick?+
Start with Balanced. Pick Smallest file when you must fit under a strict upload limit, and High quality when the PDF is headed for a printer.
Does it work on a phone?+
Yes. Big PDFs take a little patience on a phone because every page is re-drawn on your device, not on a server.
